• North Carolina passed new sales tax laws that will take effect January 2017. To comply with the state sales tax requirements as outlined by the state in their letter to contractors, users will need to determine which type of job they are estimating and choose the appropriate sales tax jurisdiction. For more information about determining which sales tax jurisdiction to use for a estimate, visit the North Carolina Department of Revenue website.
  The following jurisdictions were created for North Carolina:
• Capital Improvement: Taxes material only. Users can select this jurisdiction if the job is considered a capital improvement to real property.
• Repair, Maintenance, or Installation Services (Rpr Maint. Inst. Svc.): Taxes the total of the estimate. Users can select this jurisdiction if the job is considered a repair, maintenance, or installation service.
• Mixed: Users can select this jurisdiction if the job involves both capital improvement and repair, maintenance, and installation service items. This allows users to apply a “material tax" to capital improvement items and a “total tax" to repair, maintenance, and installation service items within the same estimate by using job type functionality in Xactimate.
• Contents Only: Users can select this jurisdiction if the estimate only contains contents replacement items.
